Here are the medical problems fragrance have been linked to!

Are you ready for this list? You might just be itching to throw away your bottle of perfume/cologne after this…

ALLERGIES~  Sneezing, coughing, watery eyes

ASTHMA~  Fragrance is suspected to contribute to asthma development in children.

CANCER~  Yes, because many of these chemicals are known human carcinogens, according to the FDA.

DERMATITIS~  Red, scaly, dry patches on the skin, either from ingesting problem foods or from putting products with fragrance on your skin in the form of lotions or makeup or colognes and perfumes.

DEPRESSION~  In people who are highly sensitive, these scents can affect brain chemistry and even lead to people being more prone to panic attacks.

DIZZINESS & NAUSEA~  These symptoms happen when your central nervous system is impacted by these toxins.

HEADACHES & MIGRAINES~  Whew! That guy that walked by you that took a bath in cologne (we all know that guy!). He could just have been responsible for your migraine later that day. We are inundated with toxins constantly!

UPPER RESPIRATORY PROBLEMS~  Even failure can happen at high exposures … AKA DEATH.

My suggestion is to check every product you put on your body for the ingredient “FRAGRANCE” … if it is listed, please do not use! It is common to find fragrance in your deodorant, perfumes, colognes, soaps, lotions, makeup, and the list goes on. Store bought air fresheners, candles and laundry soaps, and dryer sheets will mostly also contain “FRAGRANCE”.

A 2009 study out of South Carolina State University also warns about chemicals emitted into the air upon burning candles.  The researchers found that burning paraffin candles produced “undesired chemicals,” like alkans, alkenes, and toluene, which can have harmful effects on humans.

“For a person who lights a candle every day for years or just uses them frequently, inhalation of these dangerous pollutants drifting in the air could contribute to the development of health risks like cancer, common allergies and even asthma,” said lead researcher and chemistry professor Dr. Ruhullah Massoudi.

Still, the research continues to pile up: In 2014, Scientific American reported that a study in the journal Environmental Health Perspectives shows a strong link between exposure to phthalates (chemicals that are found in air fresheners and often plastics) during pregnancy and the child’s future risk of asthma.

“Phthalates are known to impede the endocrine system, the regulatory mechanism that dictates hormonal distribution in the body,” Scientific American reports. “The chemicals’ disruptive prowess have been linked to health problems including birth defects, cancers and diabetes. Yet until now there has been no data to suggest they were also harming children’s respiratory systems.”

Why say NO to candles?

~ Anything that releases smoke decreases air quality!

~ They are toxic and contain particulate matter, volatile organic compounds, and even lead.

~ Fragrance candles release toxic fumes into your home… think respiratory problems.

~ “Studies have shown that lighting just one candle fills the air with more microparticles than traffic in a busy street.” -Meik Wiking
