The importance of having a strong vagus nerve cannot be stated enough!

The vagus nerve is the longest cranial nerve, and runs from the brain to the gut. It sends sensory information to the brain and controls certain motor functions throughout the body. It’s part of the parasympathetic system, which allows the body to “rest and digest”. The gut/brain connection plays a HUGE role in your overall health.

Certain tools can activate the vagus nerve, which lowers inflammation and decreases the risk for heart disease, stroke and many other issues. Basically in today’s modern world, most are living in “fight or flight mode.” Due to staying overly stressed, the body may not go into a parasympathetic state, which leads to poor vagal tone. I was living in “fight or flight mode” for many years… which eventually lead to dis-ease.

So, what can one do to increase vagal tone? Utilizing activities that activate the vagus nerve will help increase vagal tone.

Here are some of these vagus-stimulating activities that I do every day!

~ Humming or singing

~ Gargling

~ Cold therapy – ice cold shower, or tub

~ Lymph brushing

~ Acupuncture

~ Coffee enemas

~ Red light therapy

~ Infrared sauna (sweat)

~ Vagus nerve tapping

~ Breathwork (WIM HOF is my fave)

~ Probiotics and omega-3 fatty acids

~ Anti-inflammatory diet (GF, Sugar free, Dairy free… etc…)

Now you know what the Vagus Nerve is, and how important it is!  If you are supporting your vagus nerve… please share how! I would love to hear from you!

Happy Healing!
